Invisalign Tips
There are a number of top tips out there for Invisalign so we’ve whittled it down to our favourites.
1. Clean aligners regularly
Wearing aligners constantly can stain them and start to make your break smell. Cleaning them regularly can prevent this and keep them fresh. We also suggest that when removing your aligners to place them in some water to stop any particles sticking to them. It will also make them feel fresh when putting them back in.
2. On-the-go cleaning
With Invisalign it is important to not only keep your aligners clean but also keep your teeth clean too. Having travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste on your at all times will allow you to always clean your teeth. This is helpful for when you go out for a meal and will need to clean your teeth before putting your aligners back in.
Also have a place to store them while eating. The best item to have is a case. You can either buy an Invisalign case or a gum shield case will do the trick too!
3. Watch what you eat
It is said that the Invisalign treatment is a great way to become healthier. This is due to not being able to eat a lot of sugar food and drinks. Sugary food and drinks will help bacteria to develop on your teeth. This will damage the enamel on your teeth and make them very weak. Items that you should steer clear of are:
- Wine
- Fizzy drinks
- Coffee
- Sugary sweets
4. Changing your aligners
Changing aligners can be very uncomfortable for the first few hours, and for a bit after you take them out for the first time. To make them a little more bearable, rinse them in warm (NOT hot water- this will change the shape of your aligners).
You could also put your aligners in at night. You will be asleep for the first few hours of discomfort.
5. Wear them all the time
The most important tip for having a successful Invisalign treatment is to wear your aligners continuously. The less you wear them the less affect they will have on your teeth. The more you wear your aligners the more comfortable they will become. This is because your teeth will soon start to adjust.
